Fully Electric Vehicles — Current Capability & 2027 Road-Map
Fully electric vehicles (EVs) are not yet significant in Uganda's corporate fleet — as of 2026, EV penetration in the East African commercial fleet market remains below 1%. However, international development organisations and some government procurement bodies are beginning to evaluate EVs for light-duty urban roles.

OBD-II diagnostic scanning
For EV fault codes — Advanced Diagnostic Machine covers BYD, Nissan Leaf, and VW ID platform codes.
12V auxiliary battery service
All EVs carry a 12V system for ancillaries.
Tyre services
All EV-specific low-rolling-resistance tyre types.
AC and cabin climate service
Air conditioning and cabin climate system service.
Brake service
EV brake systems use conventional calipers/pads alongside regen; physical brake service is identical to ICE.
Body, panel & exterior work
Fully transferable skill, plus external lighting and minor electrical ancillaries.
What Requires 2027 Investment
AC charging infrastructure
Type 2 points not yet installed (planned 2027).
HV traction battery service
Requires a dedicated insulated EV bay (planned 2027).
Proprietary OEM EV diagnostic tools
BYD, Tesla, VW — access pending supplier agreements.
DC fast-charge diagnostics
Specialist equipment required.
Staff HV certification
IET or equivalent — training budgeted 2026–2027.
