Stop safely — red lights

Oil pressure

Switch the engine off. Driving on can destroy the engine within minutes.

Engine temperature

Stop and let it cool. Never open a hot radiator cap.

Brake warning

Check the handbrake is off. If it stays on, brake fluid may be low — do not drive.

Get checked soon — amber lights

Check engine

Steady: book a diagnostic scan. Flashing: reduce speed — it usually means a misfire.

Battery / charging

The alternator may not be charging. The car can stop once the battery runs flat.

ABS or airbag

Normal brakes still work, but ABS or airbags may not. Get it scanned.
